Foreword
With RCS Cut or RCS SL, it is sometimes necessary to import DXF files to recreate 2D parts.
DXF is a well known format for 2D geometry, but recreating parts from these files needs additional information and process.
This is made in RCS with the 'DXF filter', available with the 'Import' module.
Structure
To be able te rebuild parts, the DXF must be structured. All the entities and information of each part must be separated.
RCS handle 3 types of DXF structure
-
1 part = 1 block
-
1 part = 1 layer
-
1 part = 1 layer and 1 color
Part information
The information attached to the part must be encoded either as a text, or in the block name.
RCS can recover the following information
-
Part name
-
Size
-
Material category
-
Quantity
Part entities
The different entities inside the part can be distinguished according to their layer or their color.
The entities can be
Boundary line
-
Notches
-
Internal line to draw
-
Internal line to cut
-
Direction line
-
Quality zone
-
...
Best practices
Identify the DXF structure
Use AutoCAD, plain DXF import in RCS or any other program to control the structure of the DXF (block, layer, layer_and_color)
